A stretch ceiling consists of a perimeter profile fixed to the walls or existing ceiling and a flexible membrane, usually made of PVC or technical fabric, which is heated and stretched until it becomes perfectly flat. It's not just a "white sheet": there are numerous possible variations in terms of material and finish.

PVC stretch ceilings are among the most popular due to their stability, ease of cleaning, and the ability to create very smooth surfaces. This material allows for matte, satin, glossy, mirror-effect, translucent, and even fully backlit surfaces. The panels can be cut to size, heat-sealed, and adapted to complex shapes, unusual angles, cornices, and three-dimensional structures.

Stretch ceilings made of technical fabrics offer a softer, more textured aesthetic. They can be micro-perforated for acoustic purposes, or designed to ensure uniform light diffusion when backlit. Some textile solutions are particularly suitable for environments where sound absorption is important, such as open-plan offices, restaurants, or meeting rooms.

Stretch ceilings with acoustic functions are also very interesting. Thanks to micro-perforated materials and specific absorbent layers hidden behind the membrane, the ceiling becomes a true sound-absorbing element, capable of reducing reverberations and improving acoustic comfort in noisy environments or with highly reflective surfaces.

In terms of finishes, a stretch ceiling can be:
Opaque , for a discreet and uniform effect, ideal when the ceiling needs to “disappear” and leave the furnishings to take centre stage.
Satin , with a very light reflection that softens the light.
Glossy mirror , suitable for modern spaces where you want to increase the perception of height and create plays of reflections.
Translucent/backlit , to obtain real “luminous skies”, suspended panels or surfaces that diffuse light evenly.

A separate chapter concerns printed and customized stretch ceilings. Graphic patterns, textures, starry skies, abstract images, or unique solid colors can be reproduced, coordinating them with the interior design. In commercial and office settings, this option allows logos, identifying motifs, and corporate graphics to be integrated directly into the ceiling.

The choice of material and finish depends on many factors: the height and shape of the room, the presence of systems to be concealed, acoustic requirements, the desired type of lighting, and the overall style of the project. A well-designed stretch ceiling is not just a "cover," but a tool for redesigning the light, proportions, and atmosphere of a space.

Highlight

• Membranes available in matte, glossy, satin, acoustic and translucent finishes for backlighting.
• They allow you to obtain perfectly smooth surfaces even where the existing ceiling is irregular.
• The backlit versions allow you to transform the ceiling into a large uniform body of light.
• Wide range of customization options with prints, solid colors and combinations with veils and frames.

Low Light

• Glossy finishes highlight imperfections and unwanted reflections more if the light is not studied well.
• Translucent membranes require careful lighting and diffusion, otherwise “spots” of light will appear.
• Some very specific finishes may be more sensitive to localized scratches or impact marks.
