Installation begins with the installation of perimeter profiles , usually made of aluminum, fixed at the established height along the perimeter of the room. These profiles define the level of the new ceiling and represent the element to which the canvas will be attached. Alignment is crucial: any imperfections would result in visible undulations or unevenness.

Once the perimeter structure is installed, the sheet is prepared. The membrane is custom-made in the laboratory, heat-sealed at the joints, and equipped with a special edge (harpoon or similar systems) that allows it to be anchored to the profiles. Before installation, the sheet is heated—usually with special hot air generators—to make it soft and more elastic. This allows it to be stretched evenly without overstressing.

Tensioning is usually done starting from one corner and alternating between opposite sides to distribute the forces. As the canvas is inserted into the profile, the creases smooth out and the surface takes on its final appearance. During this phase, an expert eye checks for reflections, light lines, and any distortions, immediately correcting small defects.

When the stretch ceiling includes integrated lighting , installation is coordinated with electricians and installers. Frames and supports for spotlights, reinforcing rings for light points, and lightweight structures for backlit panels are positioned. After tensioning, the fabric is cut at the designated points, using specific accessories that prevent unwanted tears or expansion.

Some projects feature multi-level or contoured stretch ceilings, with cornices, raised sections, and suspended panels. In these cases, installation requires even more careful planning, with profiles installed at different heights and multiple panels that must fit together, creating well-controlled shadows and lines of light.

The final phase includes a comprehensive inspection : any residual micro-creases are checked, tension is checked around corners and cut areas, and systems and lighting fixtures are tested. A properly installed stretch ceiling is perfectly uniform, without dips, with clean edges and precise integration with walls, cornices, and other architectural elements.

Highlight

• The use of “harpoon” profiles and systems guarantees uniform tension and clean edges along the entire perimeter.
• Controlled heating of the membrane eliminates creases and undulations, obtaining a perfectly taut surface.
• Coordination with the electrician and plasterboard installer allows for the precise integration of spotlights, light cuts and backlit panels.
• In backlit ceilings, a correct distance between the LED and the membrane ensures a diffused and uniform light, without “spotted” spots.

Low Light

• Measurement errors or incorrect tension often require the membrane to be completely redone.
• Cuts for spotlights or accessories made outside the dimensions cannot be recovered without replacement.
• An improvised placement of LEDs or light panels can compromise the final backlighting effect.
